Frequently-Asked Questions about MailProof™
How do I position the Variable image on the Preprint? With both the IJPDS file and the Preprint file opened, select the 'Hand' tool from the toolbar or menu. To move the Preprint image by itself, hold down the SHIFT key when you click the left mouse button. To move the IJPDS image by itself, hold down the CTRL key when you click the left mouse button. Drag the selected image into position and then release the mouse button. With the 'Hand' tool selected, if you click and drag with neither SHIFT nor CTRL selected, both images will move together. You can also move the image of each printhead by showing the printhead positions on-screen, then clicking in the green bar and dragging the printhead area into position. Back to TopCan I save the modified image positions?Yes. MailProof saves printhead positions, printhead colors, RIP side settings, rotation and registration information in the ProofNote file. To get it to do this, select 'File | Preferences' and in the 'ProofNote Options' section, check the options 'Always Load ProofNote File' and 'Always Write ProofNote File'. This will cause it to read and write a corresponding ProofNote file when the IJPDS file is opened or closed respectively, even if no actual ProofNotes are defined. If you want to decide whether to skip generation or updating of a ProofNote file when the IJPDS file is closed, also check 'Ask before Writing ProofNotes'. Back to TopWhy do I get a 'CRC Sequence Error' message opening the file? You probably have the wrong file format selected. If the IJPDS file was generated on a mainframe for output to magnetic tape, it has a different format from the fixed blocklength disk format. Select 'File | Preferences' from the menu and check the 'Unpadded IJPDS File Format' checkbox. Then try opening the file again. When you download an IJPDS file from a mainframe system, make sure the transfer is binary and that it does not translate to ASCII or add carriage return/line feed characters. This can also cause the CRC error message. Back to TopDoes MailProof support the Scitex VersaMark 90 printer?Yes, in both 300 x 300dpi and 300 x 600dpi resolutions. Back to TopWhy is the preprint background missing when I print to my PostScript plotter or Adobe Acrobat? This is caused by a deficiency in the Adobe PostScript driver which prevents combining of two images at the printer. In the printhead areas, the background image will be missing. If you are running WindowsNT or Windows2000/XP, there is an option on the Preferences dialog in the Proof Print Options section at the bottom that reads "Acrobat/PostScript Processing Option". Check this box to cause MailProof to internally combine the images before sending them to the printer. If running Windows95 or 98, this option is not available. Try installing a non-PostScript driver for the plotter and use that for MailProof printing. For Acrobat, set a PostScript driver to print to file, then use Acrobat Distiller to generate the PDF file. Back to TopDoes MailProof read Scitex 6240 MPC-format files? No, but we have a new MPC-format version of the software. See this page. Back to TopWhy do I get the error "Insufficient Memory for Fonts" when opening my file?Your file has a very large number of fonts or they are very big. It is important that the PC on which you are running MailProof has plenty of Virtual Memory. In Win95/98, go to Control Panel/System/Performance and click the Virtual Memory button. If the setting is "let Windows manage my virtual memory settings", make sure there is at least 256MB free on the C: drive. If you have selected the option to manage your own settings, check the drive you have selected for adequate space. Under WindowsNT and Windows2000, the problem is a bit more complicated. Again, there should be adequate virtual memory allocated (which can be split over several drives), but NT also requires a great deal of actual RAM memory and you may be running out of RAM before exhausting the virtual disk memory. Ask your System Administrator to check your system. Back to Top
